Why Choose the ASC
ASC: The Energy is Here
In addition to a challenging and rewarding career, the ASC also provides incentives to attract and retain the best employees. There are many reasons to choose the ASC – just some include:
Employees at the ASC work in a professional, energetic and collegial culture that empowers employees while fulfilling the ASC’s mandate of sustaining a fair and efficient capital market and protecting investors. Our people are attracted to the uniqueness of what the ASC does and the role we play in Alberta’s market. We take pride in what we do, and how we do it together.
When you join the ASC, you’re becoming part of an organization with a reputation for:
- Leading capital markets expertise
- Protecting investor interests
- Ensuring solid governance
- Valuing work-life balance
- Providing a rewarding place to work
- Contributing to our community
We are committed to providing a positive and professional working environment. As such, we believe strongly in the following core values as a way of life at the ASC.
Our diverse workforce means we benefit from a wide range of backgrounds, perspectives and experiences. Working at the ASC you can expect to work with a driven, personable team that is passionate about what they do.
Like most people, you have many demands on your time outside of your professional life. At the ASC, we encourage a healthy balance between work and lifestyle, including flex days and flexibility in work hours. Employees feel that our corporate culture balances career growth with the ability to also focus on personal pursuits.
We also encourage fun and giving back to the community as part of our work. The ASC Social Club offers a variety of events both within and outside of work hours; past events have included picnics, hockey nights, football games, a barbeque at the Zoo, bowling and axe throwing. Each year we hold a month-long United Way campaign that includes a number of fun events and activities to get involved in while supporting our community. We also hold company-wide annual celebrations for Stampede and the holiday season.
We offer a total rewards package that’s built on a fair market salary and so much more. Our people are key to our success and it’s important we reward them accordingly with total compensation that encompasses a number of benefits.
The ASC provides our employees competitive pay and a competitive benefits package. This includes 100 per cent employer-paid benefits such as comprehensive health and dental, employee life insurance, short-term and long-term disability; RRSP or PPSP (Public Service Pension Plan) contributions; travel insurance; paid vacation time and flex days; an employee family assistance program; and a transportation allowance. We also offer generous health and fitness spending accounts.
Employees find their work at the ASC interesting. A highlight for many is the variety - working across multiple industries and with many different disciplines, which provides exposure to interesting issues and projects. This also provides ample opportunity for career development and broadening your professional experience.
To enhance and develop employees’ knowledge, skills and abilities, we encourage ongoing learning and development through subsidised courses, conferences, workshops and seminars. We also offer ongoing professional development through participation on national and international committees and in working groups.
In addition, we offer in-house training programs for employees through an online tool that provides a number of learning experiences including “lunch and learns,” training resources and guides and learning plans. In this format, our people can brush up on existing skills or learn new ones, and track progress and achievements.
We believe in giving back to the community in which we work and live. We are actively involved with the Calgary United Way. The Calgary United Way funds a range of programs and services in Calgary that provide individuals and families the opportunity to reach their potential and improve their quality of life. Each year, the ASC holds a month-long campaign to raise funds for the United Way and its programs. In past years campaign events have included volunteer opportunities, as well as fundraising events. In 2013, our campaign won the United Way's Spirit of Partnership Gold award and each year our contributions make a difference in the lives of other Calgarians.
We are located in Centennial Place, close to the picturesque Eau Claire District in Calgary. That means we're within walking distance of Prince's Island Park and have direct access to the downtown Calgary Plus 15 skyway system with its network of restaurants and shops. Our building has several amenities including an onsite fitness centre, bike parking with shower and locker facilities, full-service detailing and car wash, carpool parking and restaurants.
The interior design of the ASC maintains a balance between privacy and collaboration using architecture to bring people together while providing secure spaces for dedicated work and focus. One enjoyable aspect of the office is the bright, cheerful employee lounge called The Exchange that features two walls of windows looking out onto downtown Calgary and the Bow River.
As part of our care for the environment, we have several green initiatives including extensive recycling programs. In addition, certain ASC employees are members of Centennial Place's Green Team, a part of the building's sustainability program.
